VANITAS

„Vanitas is a symbolic work of art showing the transience of life, the futility of pleasure, and the certainty of death, often contrasting symbols of wealth and symbols of ephemerality and death.“

VANITAS is a series of still-life portraits of iconic things that belonged to well-known people. Some objects in the portraits are clearly identifiable, others show only parts.

A mouthpiece from Clyde Barrow‘s saxophone, that had been found in the car next to the dead bodies of Bonnie & Clyde, Elvis Presley's morning gown or Madonna‘s bra, worn at her Like a Virgin tour.
All these things that are symbolic of earthly achievements and also the certainty of death are photographed it a simple and intimate way.
